Propylthiouracil side effect was reported by a Pharmacist from UNITED STATES on Mar 27, 2008. Female patient, 19 years of age, was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and was treated with Propylthiouracil. After drug was administered, patient experienced the following side effects: abdominal pain , acute hepatic failure, blood pressure increased, brain herniation, convulsion, decreased appetite, mental status changes, nausea , neurological examination abnormal. Propylthiouracil dosage: unknown. Patient died on 12/04/2007.

After drug was administered, patient experienced the following side effects: acute hepatic failure, antimitochondrial antibody positive, antinuclear antibody positive, aphthous stomatitis, hepatic encephalopathy, hepatitis , liver transplant , smooth muscle antibody positive. Propylthiouracil dosage: 150 MG, 100 MG, 150 PO. Patient was hospitalized. Patient recovered.

During the same period patient was treated with PROPRANOLOL. Patient was hospitalized. Patient recovered.

After drug was administered, patient experienced the following side effects: acute hepatic failure, brain herniation, coagulopathy, encephalopathy, hepatic fibrosis, hepatic necrosis, hepatitis , hepatocellular injury. Propylthiouracil dosage: 100 MG TID PO. Patient died on 12/05/2007.
