Rifampin and abdominal pain Patient Reports March 16, 2010

Rifampin Side Effects Report #5011823-2
Rifampin side effect was reported by a Consumer or non-health professional from UNITED STATES on Mar 20, 2006. Male patient, 55 years of age, was diagnosed with tuberculosis  and was treated with Rifampin. After drug was administered, patient experienced the following side effects: abdominal pain , alanine aminotransferase increased, ascites, aspartate aminotransferase increased, hepatic failure, hepatic necrosis, jaundice , pulmonary oedema. Rifampin dosage: unknown. During the same period patient was treated with PYRAZINAMIDE, TYLENOL, IBUPROFEN, PROZAC, TUSSIN. Patient died.

Male patient, 51 years of age, was diagnosed with tuberculosis  and was treated with Rifampin. After drug was administered, patient experienced the following side effects: abdominal pain , alanine aminotransferase increased, anorexia, aspartate aminotransferase increased, bilirubin conjugated increased, blood alkaline phosphatase increased, blood bilirubin increased, hepatitis c positive, hepatocellular damage. Rifampin dosage: unknown. During the same period patient was treated with PYRAZINAMIDE, DILANTIN, ZYRTEC, PENICILLIN VK, COLACE, VASOTEC, MOTRIN. Patient died.

Female patient, 32 years of age, was diagnosed with tuberculosis  and was treated with Rifampin. After drug was administered, patient experienced the following side effects: abdominal pain , alanine aminotransferase increased, aspartate aminotransferase increased, blood bilirubin increased, hepatic failure, international normalised ratio increased, nausea , ocular icterus. Rifampin dosage: unknown. During the same period patient was treated with PYRAZINAMIDE. Patient died on 08/19/2001.

Rifampin side effect was reported by a Physician from UNITED STATES on Sept 29, 2005. Male patient, 60 years of age, weighting 216.1 lb, was treated with Rifampin. After drug was administered, patient experienced the following side effects: abdominal pain , bunion, convulsion, dizziness , fall , monarthritis, myocardial infarction, prostate examination abnormal, road traffic accident. Rifampin dosage: unknown. During the same period patient was treated with DOXYCYCLINE, WELLBUTRIN, CARDURA, FLOMAX, PREVACID, CEPHALEXIN, PERCOCET, PEPCID. Patient was hospitalized and became disabled. Patient recovered.
